Thank You Peggy for Touching Our Lives

Zora H. "Peggy" Jacobs, beloved wife and mother, passed away quietly on May 8, 2007 from complications of diabetes at Providence St. Peter Hospital, surrounded by family. She had just celebrated her 86th birthday. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Doc Henderson and Bill Henderson.

Peggy was born in Dundee, Texas on May 7, 1921 and was the oldest of five children. She became the family matriarch at the tender age of 12, when her mother became ill and was unable to care for the family. She met her sweetheart, Charley Jacobs, while attending San Angelo Junior College, and she eloped with him on May 6, 1940 to Zaragoza, Mexico. They began their life together in San Angelo, Texas, moved to Olympia, Washington in 1955, and ultimately shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Peggy was an active member of the Olympia First Baptist Church and the McKenzie Road Baptist Church. A devout Christian, she gathered great strength from her faith and the support of her church family. She taught Sunday school, worked with youth groups, and organized many a potluck dinner. She raised three loving daughters and helped family members, friends, and acquaintances in myriad ways throughout the years. Peggy never turned aside from anyone in need and touched many lives with her generosity. She enjoyed needlework and flower arranging, was an avid seamstress, and loved to cook; her southern-fried chicken was known far and wide. She was employed by the State of Washington and the North Thurston School District and was a teacher at the Olympia Vocational Technical Institute, where she touched the lives of many women with her knowledge and compassion. After retirement, she picked up a rod and reel and proceeded to out-fish her husband at every opportunity.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charley; three daughters, Beth Davis, of Olympia, Helen Sayler, of Maui, Hawaii, and Jan Jacobs, of Tumwater; one brother, Dutch Henderson; and one sister, Helen Warden. She was especially close with her niece, Lynda Gee, and deeply loved her many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She will be sorely missed by all.

A viewing is scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2007, and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Mills & Mills Funeral Home, 5725 Littlerock Road S.W., Tumwater.
